Accident? I call it fate!
You often hear people say they got into their jobs by “accident” well I certainly did! It was 1994 and I was lying in hospital bed for 12 days recovering from a bike accident. As a result I lost my job but it was just the shove I needed to make me think about what I would most like to do. I had always loved watching bike racing and it was natural I suppose to want to capture the action. I bought my first camera and off I went. I was no overnight success, for start I was on the outside field behind the barriers like most of you and shots are a lot harder from there!
Gradually though I improved and people started to say they liked my shots. Some of my pictures were used in Performance Bikes, Ride and other top titles.
When Mike Grainger from GT said he might be able to help me get accreditation via a magazine contact he knew, I knew my career was getting another shove in the right direction.
I am grateful to Mike Grainger at GT, Hillary, Vivien and Susie at the drive magazine in plymouth, Simon Lane at Hel Brakes Exeter, Claire Williams at Octagon for the help they gave me, I got the all important accreditation which means I can now get to parts of the track that arent available to the public!
I am freelance so I work for anyone who pays me. I go to most GPs, BSBs WSB and lots of local events. If you want me to photograph you on the race track or just on your bike anywhere, I’ll be happy to oblige.
The accident hasn’t put me off bikes; in fact my ZX9R Ninja is my only form of transport, fast, exciting and lots of fun.
